Adventured to paint this cup as I continued exploring in oils. This is the start of a new series with small paintings accompanied by a story.
When I looked at this cup to paint, I depicted it empty. It represents our lives and what we choose to fill it with and consume.
This can range across many activities, thoughts, and sources. Family, church, friends, entertainment, work, careers, hobbies, adventures, activities of all sorts from movies, tv, books, music, etc.
These are wonderful gifts from the Father in Heaven to enjoy. However, there can be sources we fill up on that we never seem to find joy, or that cause our behaviors and attitudes to lead into improper thoughts, actions, words and deeds. Anger, resentment, bitterness, anxiety, jealousy, selfishness, fear, or pride can manifest in hurtful behavior towards us or others.
Be mindful of your attitude, are you exhibiting more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, forbearance, and self-control? (Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 3:16-19; Romans 12:2)
Rather are you frequently frustrated, angry, dissatisfied, disappointed, depressed, anxious, unforgiving, fearful, worried, bitter, or no matter what you do you lack true joy? You may be filling your cup with the wrong source. (2 Corinthians 12:20; Ephesians 4:30-32; Galatians 5:19-21)
If you look to the things of this world or people to fill your cup you will be sadly disappointed and let down, we humans are jacked up. Eventually even with the best intentions, we mess up. (Romans 3:23)
There is only one good source, it is God and drawing near to Him. Our only hope is in Jesus. (John 3:16)
Fill your cup with the word of God, seek out a church, spend time in prayer, listen to praise music, and seek Him First.
If you are tired of the same old thing, disappointments, frustrations and lack joy? Change the source of what or who fills your cup!
