How to get a great Commission art piece

Hi all,

Just wanted to give a few tips when requesting a commissioned piece. Having an artist create a personal memory or keepsake on can make a wonderful gift or keepsake. I have been privileged to paint a variety of subjects, from a family home, business, family member, to beloved pet.

Typically, an artist will work from a photograph. Having a quality image is key to get the best detail. Let's talk a minute about my most common requests, pet portraits. Find an image or take several photos to capture his or her personality. You don't have to take one where they are looking straight at the camera either.

Here is one of my favorites:

This one gave a great partial profile and helped to make the dog leap off the canvas.

It is understandable if this becomes a challenge because your precious pet is no longer with you. I am happy to work off of multiple photos to try to capture the best detail with the preferred pose.

These do make wonderful gifts for people, if you don't have the images of a for a family member, you can prepay for the gift. Please reach out if I can help you with a custom piece.

Check out my Services page for examples in the surrounding areas. If you are not local, I can ship anywhere in the US.

Have a great blessed day!

Shirley
